The Floating Rose is one of the most beautiful and poetic effects ever created in the art of magic. Originated by Kevin James, this classic begins when the magician invites a spectator on stage. A simple paper napkin is crumpled into a ball… and suddenly, it comes to life! It dances across the magician’s hands and arms, then—under his guidance—the spectator makes the paper ball float herself.
The magician then unfolds the paper to show it’s empty, folds it again into a delicate rose, and the bloom magically stands upright in his open palm. It begins to float gracefully in midair, the magician passes his hands all around it, and with a flash of fire, the paper flower transforms into a real rose—a gift for the volunteer to take home.
So, where does HP Creations and Ray Lum come in?
Back in the early 2000s, Kevin James was preparing for a world tour and needed a unique way to perform the Floating Rose without relying on a microphone stand (which he often used). He turned to Ray Lum, who engineered a custom candlestick to replace the stand—allowing the routine to play beautifully in any language, on any stage.
Due to the complexity of its construction, this special candlestick was never released to magicians—until now.
After a recent visit to the HP Creations workshop, Kevin and Ray challenged our team to bring this legendary prop back to life. After months of collaboration and precision design, we’ve faithfully recreated the original Floating Rose Candlestick, now 3D printed in premium wooden PLA for durability and elegance.
